D&D (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

The weapons table from the upcoming Unearthed Arcana playtest for One D&D has made its way onto the internet via Indestructoboy on Twitter, and reveals some new mechanics. The mastery traits include Nick, Slow, Puncture, Flex, Cleave, Topple, Graze, and Push. These traits are accessible by the warrior classes.

I just had a thought.....will / should some creatures be immune to these conditions?

I'd also consider size differential restrictions on some things, but that's because I hate my huge dragons from being nerfed so easily......
Oh gods no.

This is what AC and saving throws are for. We do not need to start nerfing martials the moment they get the ability to do anything other than stand there going whackwhackwhack.

Not enabling that as a matter of course is indeed a bizarre choice. But of course, it's always bothered me that Two-Weapon Fighting in D&D isn't primarily focused on improved defense.
I believe that is somewhat represented by the +1 bump to AC that the Dual Wielder feat provides.

Hey, I agree that martials need more.... Will the be saving throws for this? If so, that's enough, I agree.

Might want to run the numbers on that: getting the benefits of using two hands while holding a shield? That's probably the best of these.
I mean that sounds great, until you remember that “the benefits of using two hands” is essentially +1 damage.

I think the only trait missing for me is wounded or bleeding or whatever you want to call ongoing damage.

You could add grapple to some weapons (or pin in place, or something), but slow likely covers that some.

If anything, I'd over complicate this system, so it's probably good I'm not in charge....

A sleeve catcher-style weapon that kept you adjacent would be fun, too.

Imagine being in battle with a spikey-armored warrior who had a mace in one hand and a sleeve catcher in the other so you couldn't even try to run away as they pummeled you into the ground like a tent spike.

Almost like "marking" back in the day.....almost.
