are you welding a melee weapon in one hand with no other weapons? no? there you go then.

No need to be snarky, man. There is no word "only" in the description, so if I am holding a weapon in two hands, then I am holding it with one hand as well; thus the legitimate question...

OP: the rule is intended as rjfTrebor described it. You need to be holding it in one hand only. Welcome aboard by the way!

Thank you gents! Very helpful advice. =)

EDIT: Another question i have is, if you choose a bow or a xbow as a starting weapon, does it come with 20 arrows or bolts?

If you do the quick pick equipment thing, I think they all do. I'd by 20 more to ensure I don't run out or just hope the DM doesn't make you keep track of that sort of thing.

nothing in the book would lead me to believe this. if you want ammo, it has to be bought separately.

For all the classes that can pick either a bow or crossbow as their starting equipment, it is stated that they come with ammunition. For example one of the equipment choices a fighter has is "(a)a light crossbow and 20 bolts or (b) any simple weapon". Only the Ranger is stated as getting a quiver for his ammunition, but I would guess that it is implied in the other cases as well.
