Doesn't need to be a reboot. Just have it be in-between events.
Yes. I think I've said elsewhere that the SNW cast could tell new stories set in the TOS time period that weren't covered by the TOS episodes. Yeah, sure, it would look weird watching them together in chronological order, but eh ...

If we can watch an animated SNW Lower Decks crossover and a live action Lower Decks SNW crossover...

Speaking of which I was thinking last night that if prosthetics are a problem maybe we should just have an animated Andorian/Tellurite series? Whether you do that in the same or modified version of the Lower Decks style, or get someone like Powerhouse to animate it (but not writer it) it would solve the prosthetics problem.

Maybe the Maquis rebellion? They were outlaws for the Federation and terrorists for the Cardassians. Interesting moral dilemmas for sure.
That could be interesting, especially since they were only introduced into TNG and DS9 to set up Voyager, but then Voyager dropped the whole thing almost immediately. So the Maquis kind of popped up a few times in DS9 after that but mostly got ignored until they were completely wiped out by the Cardassians / Dominion.

I would set it just before TOS, so we could still have Ortagas at the helm. If we must have a recast Sulu he can be a lower decks botanist in a blue shirt. And we could see what 1st Officer Gary Mitchell was like when he was still himself.

Prodigy had a Tellurite amongst it's main cast.

The original 1970s Star Trek animated series took advantage of the medium to add a couple of more alien bridge crew.
