New version of Vorpal

I still like double weapon crit. Ignoring hardness is nice, but I think sticking with the vorpal theme (killing creatures, not destroying objects) is the way to go. However, another enchanment made for bludgeoning weapons only that ignored hardness would be cool.

Caliban made an enhancement that ignored half the hardness of the item struck, and I've also seen one that worked like this:

+1 modifier - for each +1 bonus you purchase for the weapon, the weapon ignores 5 points of hardness from the items it strikes. For instance a +3 version would ignore 15 hit points, while a +1 ignored only 5.

There's a few options out there.

No, I meant squared. If doubled x2 becomes x3, x3 becomes x4, and so on.

Ah, I see. We're just doubling differently. I was equating "doubling" to "x2", which is how I've been expressing the Vorpal damage. No prob. :)

Yes, but following the multipling rules in d20, doubling the multipliers just adds one to the multiplier, while squaring the multiplier doubles it.

Yes. I know what the rules state, but they aren't relevant here. This version of the Vorpal enhancement essentially adds an additional crit multiplier to a weapon. So the doubling isn't appropriate here, as this Vorpal is not increasing the current multiplier of a weapon. It is in addition to. I assumed you understood the context of this enhancement and were not suggesting a different approach, thus the confusion. No harm, no foul. :)

That is excately what I am pointing out.

If you wrote 'squared' instead 'doubled' there would be no confusion, at all.

I didn't need to write "squared", as that wasn't even the intent of the enhancement. In addition, son. In addition.

Futhermore, I never mentioned "doubling" or "double" or "doubled" until you showed up with "squared", which you weren't expressing properly. Squaring is not the same as doubling. ;)

Vorpal Longsword: On a critical hit, 2d8 (critical damage) + 4d8 (vorpal damage) + strength mods + misc modifiers (not multiplied).

Vorpal Greatsword: On a critical hit, 4d6 (critical damage) + 8d6 (vorpal damage) + strength mods + misc modifiers (not multiplied).

Vorpal Dagger: On a critical hit, 2d4 (critical damage) + 4d4 (vorpal damage) + strength mods + misc modifiers (not multiplied).

See?

I was aware of those points, son, but in the latter posts you (and Crothian) made you only wrote about doubling.

Anyway, it is not a big point either way.

Btw, the version I purposed works great in my campaign.

Please tell me, what you guys players feel.

(BTW, I don't like being called son, it's AggeMAM for a reason.)

Yes, Crothian mentioned "doubling", but not in the context you are referring too. He was addressing multiplying the original crit mutliplier by 2, not doubling.

Depends on how you look at it. When I'm the one being told I'm wrong by someone that isn't following the context of the thread, it is a big point. ;)

Actually, that was a really slick addon. I discussed it with my fellow DM this evening and we decided upon a final version of our Vorpal enhancement.

OK. But I don't really think that your personal issues are necessarily my issues. ;) Besides, it was all in good fun, or playful sarcasm if you will, thus the wink emoticon.

Since were now on this topic, make sure you never refer to me as skreynolds, as I will no doubt suffer permanent emotional trauma, and thus be forced to address the issue to all of the boards. Sucks in reverse, no? ;)

Seriously though, your idea of the Fort save or die was really cool. Thanks a bunch for the input. :)
