news on Giles spinoff series

From Sci-Fi-Wire:

Anthony Stewart Head, who plays Giles on UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, told the icLiverpool Web site that the dormant British spinoff series based on his character may turn into a two-hour TV movie instead. "I talked to [Buffy creator] Joss [Whedon]," Head told the site. "He said that instead of getting himself committed to another hourlong detective show, like Angel, he'd rather do a two-hour movie."

Head added, "It would look in depth into the character more. He's interested in Giles' character. It could be a one-off, and if anybody liked it, they'd go from there. At the moment, that's what I'm looking at. It makes more sense all 'round, and I know the BBC are still up for it. Joss has got so many ideas. It's not good for one man."

This would be great. I guess it would be set after the Buffy series, which could also be really interesting.

Thanks for the news. I've been really interested in the Ripper spin-off since it arrived on the scene (as I'm sure any other Buffy fan has). Even a 2 hour movie would work for me. He is such an interesting character that it would be really great to see him outside of the Scoobie atmosphere.

On a totally unrelated note, the Angel being a detective show thing is kinda funny. It started off that way but only stayed there for the first 2 seasons, really... ;)

I like the idea of TV movie for it. Heck, it would be cool if they did it with other things Buffy related as well. Of course that depends on how this seasons end of course.

I'd like to see Wes and Giles meet again too.

And, maybe Angel just isn't a very good detective, so no one hires him?
:)

I don't know. Ever since the sun got blotted out in LA, the Angel Investigation office is flooded with phone calls.

The detective part has taken a backseat what with the current storyline going on, which now includes Faith*.

* Woohoo! :cool:

As for the Watcher series that features Rupert Giles, I was hoping it would become a TV series, but I guess a TV-movie will do. I sincerely doubt if UPN would air it though.

Actually, according to Whedon it was to be called Ripper, because that sounds much sexier. :D
Yeah, I thought I heard that.

Actually, I was hoping he'd call it "The Singing Watcher." :p For obvious reasons.

Agreed, they could still be doing some investigating on the side. But that would just leave Fred and Gunn doing it all. No Cordy, no Angel, no Lorne, no Conner, no Wes. I know they handled it before but it seems like they aren't focused on it nor would they be nearly as good at it unless at least Angel or Wes were involved.

Honestly, I didn't like the detective thing as much as I do the current stories. Personal stories are much more interesting. :)
