NPC Indy-type guy

Caeleddin

First Post
I am trying to create an Indianna Jones type character with a more mercenary bend. A treasure/bounty-hunting guy that goes where the money takes him. He is going to be the opposition for the party for a while as they will be going after the same items that he has been hire to find and deliver.

At the moment, I have the following build in mind:

Ragnar Ironstar
Male Dwarf
Lawful Neutral
Ranger 12
HP: 156
AC: 26 (touch: 16, ff: 22)

Str 16
Con 20
Dex 18
Int 15
Wis 14
Cha 12

Skills: Search 13, Spot 13, Listen 10, Move Silent 10, Hide 10, Gather Info 8, Diplomacy 8, Heal 12, Climb 11, Swim 11

Feats: WF (WarAxe), Iron Will, Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Precise Shot
Ranger Path: TWF

Magical Possessions: +1 Comp LBow (M+3), +1 Mithril BP, +2 Light Spike Shield (+1 spikes), +1 flaming Waraxe, Cloak of Resist +1, Amulet Nat Ar +1, Ring of Prot +2

Notes: Ragnar is a mercenary, pure and simple. He has cultivated skills that will help him in his chosen profession, skills that he uses to devastating effect. Whether it is a bounty or an item, once Ragnar has agreed to a contract, few things will stop him from achieving his goal short of his own death. Although not pitiless, Ragnar rarely lets emotion get in the way of a contract. His reputation for completing a contract is legendary.

DM notes: Ragnar is NOT ruthless. He will try to avoid collateral damage if possible. HOWEVER, the guilt or innocence of the bounty he has agreed to hunt is irrelevant to him.

And left out the most relevant part of the post:

Favored enemy...player character? :)

I love your idea. He needs some 'color' though, and a reason for his work. Is he always hunting, or just sometimes? If he were a professor like Indie, the players might run into him in some place really unexpected causing the players to freak out and jump to (wrong) conclusions. Also, how does he subdue his targets. Nets? Tanglefoot bags? Some method of pumping out massive subdual damage?

He is a Dwarf! :p Wave a bit of shiny things under his nose

But seriously. He is a full time bounty-hunter/problem solver/retriever. Whether it is as a short term cop in a lawless town in the boonies, or retrieving things, as long as the pay is good, he is there.

Favoured enemies will be Humans (+4), Half-Elves (+2) and Halflings (+4). I might give him a weapon of mercy. Extra damage for pure subdual damage. And since he is a Ranger, Tanglefoot bags are a bit redundant ;)
