Obviously I know Lazybones is and I saw Thaee join NWC recently, but I haven't seen many other folks talk about it in a while.

I wondered what other ENWorlders thought about it, now they have had a chance to play through the single campaign and more importantly play with the toolset and multiplayer.

Hmmm perhaps I'll do a poll to complement this. Thread. Tick all that apply.

I finally got through chapter 1, after restarting the game many, many times, decided that the only part of NWN I enjoyed was, in fact, character creation, played a little bit into Chapter 2 and quit.

NWN is now off my computer, making a nice space that will be filled by Icewind Dale II :)

I did try it online once. My computer is not very fast, so instead, I played at a friends house.

It was very strange... I tend to roleplay more than most when I play these games. I invent backstories for my characters, have little conversations between them, etc... So I thought multiplayer would be good for that. But when I sat down to play multiplayer, it was so fast paced, that the roleplaying went out the window and everything became kill, kill, kill! You can't pause, and monsters pop up quickly so I didn't have time to play with the cool emotes and conversations. I enjoy hack and slash a lot in tabletop, but it just seemed too rushed in the game. So multiplayer didn't add much to the game for me.

The thing that was a gamekiller for me boiled down to repitition: searching chests and fighting monsters became very boring after a while. The strategies available were limited, especially since you only control one character. The plots were nearly identical (and apparently continued to be): go to these four areas and find these four items. So while there were some things I enjoyed, I just got very bored with the game after a while.

I read in a review that the plot becomes much more interesting after part I is completed (which is really kinda boring).

I have just reached part II myself, as I play the campaign online with a friend and we can only play together every once in a while, so our progress is very slow.

I stopped playing about 2/3 - 3/4 of the way in. I found the game incredibly boring and the lack of a full party made for an even more dull experience. The game is modular and intended to be rebuilt over and over again. It really shows. The enviornments, storylines, and missions were all very cookie cutter and tiresome. The massive number of bugs and gameplay issues (infuriating path findign as an example) didn't help any either.

After completing Baldur's Gate 2 three times (remember this game took hundreds of hours), I found NWN to be a huge dissapointment. It has been shelved since two weeks after purchasing. I am looking forward to Icewind Dale II in a week or two.

I too found the single player game terribly dull, although it might be more fun to play with a group. Maybe that's what I'll do next.

Personally, I haven't had much time to play - I've just started a full time job, and once the fall semester starts (in only three weeks, ugh) I'll be working that job part time as well as another PT job and taking 22 credits of classes which are not easy (biophysical chemistry, molecular bio lab, senior seminar in biochem, proteomics, and a couple of low level anth courses). That doesn't leave much time to play the game.

Another problem I've had is motivating myself to design levels... I was always the most motivated after playing in Lazybones' game, but since that's on hiatus (at least for the original groups) I haven't worked on it as much. I have a campaign I'm working on that should be interesting, and one or two other projects which I'd like to start and wouldn't be too hard, I just haven't gotten around to it. :(

Maybe today I'll force myself to work with the toolset some...

I wish that everyone who has been disillusioned with the SP campaign or the lame MP games on GameSpy would try a game at Neverwinter Connections. It's a totally different experience, and my games have been without exception a lot of fun for me (and by my reviews, my players as well).

Right now we need more hosted games (there's more players than DMs, just like PnP), but I've been able to get about 2/3rds of the people who PMed me a slot in one of my ongoing games.

My "Crossroads" campaign, which will take characters from 1st to around 10th level through four modules, is nearly complete. I probably won't play as much as I do now once it's done, but for me NWN has been a welcome return to D&D.

BTW, I never got beyond the beginning of Ch2 in the "Official Campaign."

I just finished the single player game a couple days ago. It was a blast. My Monk is 19th lev +. I look forward to playing a spellcaster next, and trying out more user made moduals. I have made a couple test mods but nothing special yet.
I have tried to connect to a friends server game he set up several times but it doesnt work for some reason. Screen just goes black with music palying as though its trying to log.. but WAY to much time goes by with nothing hapening. Have to ctrl alt del to stop it.
Other than that its a super game.

You must have been playing some other NWN than the one I played. Its nothing like what you said. It has excellent depth, few bugs, single char control is super, not "cookie cutter" like at all.
Maybe you didnt put in the time needed to find the extra story lines or something but all in all it is an excellent game
