One more ride on the Big O

From over at Animenation.com:

According to Television Week Magazine, the Cartoon Network is preparing to air all 26 existing episodes of The Big O on Adult Swim, uncut and uncensored for the first time ever on American television. The network also holds the option to have Sunrise Studios of Japan create another 26 original episodes specifically for the American market if the upcoming US broadcast proves popular.

It'd be great if they made a second season! Especially if us Americans were the ones to make it happen!

Tell me more of this Big O, so that if I like it I can contribute to sequels :) . I am unenlightened in the area of cartoons. Haven't seen anything since Serial Experiments.

The best way to learn is by watching the series when its shown again in its entirety. The style of it is something like Giant Robo meet Batman: the Animated Series. It's damn good from what I've seen (which is only a few episodes).

One of those sources seems a bit confused. According to Anime NFO, a very reliable source, there were 13 episodes of season 1 (or rather, series 1, debuting in 1999) and this second series, picked up by Cartoon Network, is 26 episodes. I've seen all 13, and am quite certain that was it (until now).

Anyway, that's definitely good news! The premise doesn't do a whole lot for me, but the episodes are pretty good. It's set in Paradigm City, a city with a mystery: no one remembers anything before the last 20 (?) years. The star of the show is Roger Smith, the Negotiator. He's a James Bond kind of guy: stylish, sophisticated, has lots of gadgets, and can take care of himself when there's trouble. But when its time for the real action, he summons the giant robot Mega-Deus.

What Big O does really, really well, better than just about any other show I've seen, is the preparation for battle scenes. There's an absolute KILLER battle theme song (no words, it's all orchestral), and when he's starting up Big O, the computer screens show the phrase:

CAST IN THE NAME OF GOD, YE NOT GUILTY

(This is also part of the Japanese theme song.)

Edit - Now that I re-read it, they must mean that CN is preparing to show all 26 episodes of Big O Roger, the second Big O series, and that if it does well, they may order a second season. But counting the first series, it's actually the third season of Big O.

That just goes to show you.. I actually have seen a few episodes of this, but was unfortunately unintrigued. Good luck getting another season though, it sucks when shows just disappear.

Never really liked Big O...but definatly want to see more after how it ended. And bah to CN getting it...I've not watched a single minute of CN since they were allowed to air the mangled G Gundam...*disheartened sigh of a sub fan*:D

Big O was originally 13 episodes but they have added 14 episodes to it (co produced by Cartoon Network) the finishing of the season was based on international popularity. So American fans watching on Cartoon Network are a big part of the reason that it was finished. They have called the second 14 episodes both teh finish of season 1 and season 2.

A big thing about this is that US popularity has influenced a Anime show. Anime that is popular in America is not always popular in Japan, not to mention most Anime is old news there before it even makes it to America. This could be forshadowing America becoming a important audience for Anime(storywise it already is financially) and see the emergence of Anime aimed at international audiences.
