idc about the new rules. normal bab bonus adds a + to ur attack rolls and thats it right?

this new rule would give you that same bonus and then make us subtract the same number from ur damage and ur ac in a given round in exchange for getting to pick where the bonus is applied...

seems like a slight positive for 2 negatives...

+1 to attack role = -1 to ac and -1 damage

am i reading this right?

No, which means I might not be explaining things clearly enough. Let's break it down:

1. BAB always adds to your attack rolls and your AC.

2. You have the option of adding up to your BAB to one of these:
--> Attack rolls
--> Damage rolls (for attacks that require an attack roll)
--> AC

3. If you add your BAB to one of those areas above, you must subtract the same number from one other area.

4. Modifiers remain in place until the beginning of your next turn.

That make sense?

Its basically like the PCs are getting the Power Attack and Combat Expertise feats for free.

Basically. It also adds in the All-Out Attack and Accurate Attack feats (sort of) from Mutants & Masterminds. I'm considering capping the bonus/penalty (to, say, +5/-5, regardless of BAB or some such thing), but that's not important right now.

For my larger playtest with my face-to-face group, there are more changes, such as getting rid of AoO and including black powder weapons, that I'm working with. The combat improvement doc I want to market is down to about 27 pages right now. I'd like to shrink it to 25 pages max. It's time for some ruthless editing.

:)

While I think AoO certainly can cause some issues and lead to extra time needed in combat, I do like the idea of having a penalty for taking certain actions in combat. Not sure my two pence there means anything, but there it is. :D

If you want to try the rules so much, why don't you muliclass to fighter*?

*It probally would mess up your spells, but it's an idea.

Nothing like a good old gish style PC. Fighter 1/Wizard 5/Eldritch Knight actually makes a pretty decent combination.
