Yes, the cleric makes for a "balanced" party to get started immediately. I am not sure the concept for the dwarf even gets a lot of support from the playtest spell list, honestly.
I know I posted no background for Vorgrym but I had this sort of idea in mind as soon as I saw the Osirionologist background:
After a long journey they had at last reached the edge of the vast desert. The hardest part of the journey was now upon them. The dwarf dismounted his pony and stepped into the sand. Reaching down he picked up a handful of the stuff, peering intently at it as grains fell from either side of his palm. "My people feel a deep connection to rock and stone; the deep places underneath. All of this," he says, gesturing to the vast dunes with his other hand, "All of this is just loose bits of earth, gravel, and crystal. Most dwarves do not see the beauty here that we do in our own homes. They do not hear this earth calling to us, and the secrets it promises us hidden beneath its sprawling sea. But I do." He turns his hand to the side and the rest of the sand slips away. "I am a miner at heart, just like all of my kin. But I do not chip away at cavern walls seeking veins of silver, gold, and precious gems. I am here to move the earth to capture the bits of history trapped underneath." With a dastardly smile he adds, "And the silver, gold, and precious gems within."
