If you ever need motivation not to smoke, here you go:

Smokers have sued tobacco companies.

Tobacco companies have become partially "liable" for smoking deaths, one of the prime punishments being that they have to make commercials telling kids not to smoke.

That means, that part of every dollar you spend on a cigarette goes towards those infernal "truth.com" and "Tobacco is Whacko" commercials.

Every time someone smokes a cigarette, I lose brain cells from watching one of those moronic pieces of crap.

Please, stop smoking, for the sake of my brain cells.

alsih2o: Best of luck! I'll have made it for 1 year as of 22:30 on the 26th day of September.... it has not been easy, I still get cravings... its just that now, I'd feel like an idiot giving in to them... I was 32 when I quit, I had been smoking since I was 13... about a pack an a half a day.


You want the good news of it? I've got more videos, DnD stuff, books, CDs, computer games... the list goes on and on and the really cool part is I still have more money than I did as a smoker! I truely had no idea how much it cost me (not including health issues).

So good luck, stay strong, and it can happen, one day you'll wake up and you wont want a cig to start the day... and that will be a good day indeed!

My neighbor recently quit. He chews a lot of gum now.

I tried it in grade school. I didn't like the taste, smoke in my eyes or the smell. I told my friends they were screwed and went to find a beer. It's amazing that something so addictive and detrimental to ones health is legal while there is all this fuss over giving Mary Jane for medicinal use.

My parents, who are around 50ish, had smoked for over ... wow, 30+ years (Mom) and 35+ years (Dad) and they have, in the last year, finally quit. Dad first, then my Mom most recently.

And I have never been prouder of them, or happier for them.

Although statistics say that a child of parents who smoke is more likely to be a smoker, neither my brother nor myself ever took it up. My parents told us, over and over, how bad it was, and we saw how hard they tried to quit, but give in, many times. That they've finally done it makes me so happy it's hard to express it.

It's a tough road, but in the end you are stronger and you will lick it if you want to. All the best.

You can do this! I quit in 1995. The first week was the worst. And the folks who say you can't ever have a puff again are absolutely correct.

I still have fleeting cravings now and then, usually when I'm under great stress. But I figure that, if I made it through my mother's horrible illness & death without having a smoke, I'm good for the long haul.

Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for yourself, alsih2o.

is it just me or does it seem there are a LOT of quitters here? i really would have assumed there were fewer smokers on the boards, but i am glad i found a "support group".

I am so damn proud of you! My Grandmother and a few other smokers I've known have died of lung cancer; it's nice to know you'll be around a lot longer than you would be otherwise.
