[OT] Godzilla!

Looking for a way to cap costs and stir interest in the revival in the early 1980s, Toho executives offered loyalists a cameo in the movie. More than 1,000 people showed up for the filming, and Toho has used volunteer extras ever since.

``We realized that having fans in the movie was a great way of communicating with them,'' said Tomiyama, who has been executive producer for the last 10 Godzilla movies and has run as an extra in most of them.

Now this is what being a fanboy is all about. It's all about being chased around a city by Godzilla!

How odd; I just ran across this tidbit on Bob Eggelton's website (he's a well known SF and Fantasy artist and a huge Godzilla fan) a couple days back:

*Bob starred as an extra in the upcoming GODZILLA X MECHAGODZILLA, due out from Toho at Xmas in Japan. The entire thing took place in Japan and we'll have some cool pix real soon.

-edit-
If you wonder what Eggelton looks like; look for a less evil version of Teflon Billy's pic. Longer hair, no forehead writing, less evil overall. Look for him in the movie! ;-)

Did you see Godzilla 2000, the movie that Toho released after that stupid ass Matthew Broderick thing? That ruled:)

Ok.

I am an absolutely devoted, life-long fan of the big G.

Have been since age 2.

So, Godzilla 2000 comes out, and my wife and I run out to the theatre, my 1 year old (roughly) son in tow. It's just us in the theater.

He spends the first 20 minutes or so playing around, being nice and quiet.

Then the big G shows up.

Absolute rapt attention.

Right at the end of the film, big G sticks his face in the camera and roars, as only film's greatest monster can.

This ENORMOUS sound echoes through the theater.

My son freezes in place.

He opens his mouth.

Oops, he's scared.

But....

NO!

He ROARS as loud as his little body can, then giggles and claps his hands.

When Godzilla leaves, he reaches toward the screen and says " 'ant, 'ant" (want, want)

That's my boy.

"Great Caesar's Ghost! That missile will fly through Godzilla like :):):):) through a goose."

The only thing that bothered me about Godzilla 2000 was I don't recall them ever referring to the enemy monster by name throughout the entire movie. I remember sitting through the credits at the end, patiently waiting, before finding what I was looking for and saying, "Ah, his name was Orga."

I can't recall any other Godzilla movie where that was the case.
