If I want heavy metal noise, I can think ...
Let's PLEASE not confuse KISS with metal.

I don't like KISS. I caught one of their videos this weekend on VH1 classic, and it was just awful. No makeup, music was horrible... Paul Stanley just danced around and swayed his hips, never played the guitar, looked prettier than the girls hired to show their legs on camera. Gene Simmons looked like he wears a halloween mask when not wearing the halloween makeup.

I can't see or hear anything redeeming in this band...

...but then, I'm a ManOwaR fan, so take this for what it's worth.

I do. I have been a fan since 1978 (my mom bought me the Destroyer album for my 8th b-day). But- I like "old" KISS, not the crap they put out later on. After the make-up came off, and Paul Stanley pretty much quit playing guitar and just danced around, they more or less well...sucked.

I've got all their stuff on vinyl (except the last few that weren't released on vinyl) and have seen them in concert many times (including the old days when they wore make-up as well as the reunion tour a few years ago with make-up again).

The three albums that really sucked (IMHO) when they still wore make-up were Unmasked, Dynasty, and the Elder. Too poppy, disco, BS kinda music. (And the Elder was KISS's version of a concept album, like Operation Mindcrime that Queensryche did- only QR's was 10x better and made a lot more sense)

Saw them a couple of times after they took the make-up off (and had Vinnie Vincent, Mark St John, or Bruce Kulick playing guitar and Eric Carr on drums) but they pretty much sucked.

So- yes, I am a fan. Have been since I was 8, but I prefer the make-up and old sound to the stuff they through out in the mid to late 80's and 90's (although Revenge wasn't that bad of an album).

Pure rock theatre. They had larger than life comic book personas. Seeing Kiss live in makeup was a fantastic experience. That was 1980 during their Dynasty tour. Best stage show I've ever seen.

They came out with some good songs but most people missed that the music was background for the show, it really just gave the characters a reason to be on stage for 90 min. It wasn't a musical and it wasn't straight theatre but it was a new blending.

After the makeup came off I was forced to judge them on their music alone and I moved on.:(

Yeppers- agreed. I first saw KISS in 1981 (they played almost all "old stuff" and perhaps one or two songs from Unmasked and Dynasty)...the best concert I have ever been to.

Agreed. KISS wasn't just about the music. It was about the whole live performance. They always said they were there to entertain and put on a complete and great show. If I wanted to just check out a band on music only there were many more technically sound bands than KISS (Maiden, Queensryche, Malmsteem, etc.)

Oh man, there should be more of us!!! Manowar - the most underrated (and possibly best) Heavy Metal Band of the 80's!

I really appreciate good metal; I'm a huge Tool fan, was big into
Metallica, Maiden, Crue, etc.... And I can appreciate good glam rock like anyone else: Guns 'n Roses, Skid Row, Poison (although that's stretching it :)).... Then there's the classic greats like Rush and Led Zeppelin...

But I gotta say, I am anti-Kiss. The ultimate glam-show, sellout, wanna-be's with a glittery expensive show but music that sounds like canned-spam. Plus, I'm 98% convinced their lead singer is gay. Why haven't all the die-hard Kiss fans figured that out?

I quite liked Destroyer and Love Gun, but all of their mid 80's stuff (when they dumped the makeup) was pretty bad.

Though I did kind of like "I love it Loud"
