Right, I need this cleared up! I immediately thought of Nine Inch Nails' Starfu****s when I read this post.

So going from the first couple of posts, I will declare that the song is about dissing Marilyn Manson :) (1)

Ah, but remember in the video, Trent and Marilyn were making fun of Courtney Love, Billy Corgan and a few others...

It's no wonder he hung himself, then! ;)

It's certianly doing bad things to my head

On a slightly unrelated note, at an Australian festival a few years ago, the Cure did a live cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart (hey, this threads devolving into obscure pop trivia anywhere).

I don't know about Trent Reznor, but Tori Amos' Profesional Widow was based around Courtney Love. oo - and Trent Reznor sang backing vocals on one of the tracks from her first or second album.

Arrgghh! That's "Love will keep us together"! "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a Joy Division song. Very different.

Oh, I know they're different. It's just that that's all I can think about when I see the signature. :p I finally had to share it with everyone (damn it, I won't suffer that alone!).

Best,

Anyone know who that song was really written about?

The song was written after Carly's painful breakup with the "early 70s playboy hunk" Warren Beatty (circa his film Shampoo).

Music Trivia: Listen to that song closely and you can hear Mick Jagger doing background vocals with that distinctive Jagger voice.

Hmm, didn't know it was about Courtney. Have to listen to that one again.

Reznor sang backup on 'Past The Mission' on her album 'Under the Pink'. Great song. Those two had an ongoing friendship / whatever for a while. In one song she mentions 'nine inch nails' and in another 'pretty hate machine'. Cool stuff if you're a fan of both artists.
