This seals it as a no for me.

While I'd like to be able to offer the ability for players to move icons on their own, I'm not willing to leave a player in the dust to do so. I have a Samsung Galaxy smartphone and I can't manipulate the map on Google Draw, either. Like industrygothica, I do the majority of my posting on a non-mobile device (in my case, my laptop) for the same reason IG stated...I prefer to be able spread out and to view stuff on a larger screen. It makes me squirrely to post via my phone, so I only do it when I'm out and about or when I've something small to post. That's irrelevant to this discussion, however. I know from several prior conversations via PM with Yavathol that he often uses his smartphone to post, and that his ability to do so was a condition of his joining this game.

I tried Dropbox earlier today, and it does not support Excel backgrounds at all, so Dropbox is out. I played with ditzie extensively back in March and toyed with it again this afternoon, but am unwilling to work with it because it never made it out of beta testing, the interface is awful, and it doesn't seem to want to let me upload and edit the background for the maps I want to create (though, if there is a ditzie expert among us, let's talk because maybe I'm missing something).

GlassEye, if you're willing to kinda-sorta keep tabs on Google Draw on an informal basis and let us know if Google ever makes it possible for mobile users to manipulate data on Google Draw, I'd be happy to revisit the idea of doing our mapping on Google Draw. Right now, however, it just won't support what we need it to do. And I don't know of another site that will. Again, the door's open to revisiting this discussion if/when a more functional medium becomes available. I like the idea of players being able to manipulate their own icons.

This still leaves us with a temporary issue, however, which is that one of us can't really make out the grid squares on the current maps in the IC. Frankly, that makes me mildly unhappy. What I'll do for the next few rounds is include a link to a Google sheet so that those who are having trouble making out the grid can maybe more easily read the map. Look for a link beneath each map image in the IC. I've done this before, and don't mind doing it on a temporary basis for this game. The next time I draft a combat map (for a new encounter, not for this one), I'll fiddle more with the scale so that perhaps the grid is larger and more legible. I've used Excel in the past for other games (admittedly without the fancy background), and have been able to include decent quality, fully legible map images. For an example of what I mean, check out of some of my earlier mapping work this year in THIS POST.

I use a combination of my phone and desktop to read posts but like you and IndustryGothica prefer posting from my desktop. I will certainly keep track of Google Draw and its functionality; I use it in other games. I don't expect that functionality to change much from what it is right now, though.

Please don't do any extra work for my sake. I was serious when I said I wanted to lessen your work load and I certainly don't want to add to it. I can make out the labels well enough to continue as we are with this combat but would appreciate future maps to have clearer labels. I also really appreciate the time you've spent investigating other options for mapping. You didn't have to do that and I wanted you to know I appreciate your willingness to look into other methods.

(It hadn't been my intent to forfeit a turn, just trying to strategize on how best to proceed with fellow players. I'll post a non-committal action for this turn since we've moved on. Sorry to have been unclear.)

Hunh? No, I knew I was waiting for Solace to state an action. Did you want to have her do something else beside cast light? Lemme know. (I called for Brinn's action 'cause I'm trying to clip through rounds at a quick rate, that's all)

Yeah, I'm kinda getting bored posting the same "ready action" post; which I guess, I could have Kamael do something different.. Still, I'd rather wave hands & say a minute later, Kago is ready & the stand off is still in place, or have something happen - preferably something other than the drow opens the door & kills Solace, the spider then kills Brinn, and they both turn to look at Kamael! :-P
