PbP Ars Magica- Recruiting [Closed] - covenant/character design on the go!

Yep- normally theres one in every covenant- One of my most memorable characters was Ex Miscelanae wizard who had been taken as an apprentice when the Order wiped out a group of Druids- for some reason he was always suspected (Just because he had a fairy consortis, specialised in Animal and Herbam magic and had focuses which mainly consisted of bits and pieces of plants and animals. I tell you- those Quaesitors are just way too suspicious! Hey, one even suggested that those Druids may have had ties to House Diedne - my back history didn't state it, but I think the Storytellerhad some ideas of his own! )

A covenant full of marginal mages is an idea- it would explain why they have broken away - they feel the need to create their own covenant to be free of watchful older wizards peering over their shoulders and monitoring their every move....

Hey- make the covenant in a city. Have at least one Magus of House Jerbiton, and get involved in mundane affairs (non-magically!) Of course this carries additional suspicion- a covenant, in a city, with mages under suspicion, involving themselves in mundane affairs (even if not breaking the code) is going to raise more than a few eyebrows!

The problem with this is going to be a lot of issues with the Dominion- they aren't going to like Magi in cities, especially major cities with Cathedrals etc. So just a bit more politics to stir the broth...

Once again these are just ideas for discussion...

The dominion wouldn´t be much of a problem if the covenant is located in an "island" of magic aura. And the city itself wouln´t be too big of a problem, since every wizard has the same problem. The covenant would likely have to keep the secret, maybe posing as something else, liek merchants or erudites.

I like the ideas, but this doesn´t seem to attact a lot of attention. Is there someone else liking to join?

OK, more time to write now!!

I'm definately into the cooperative aspects of this game. The idea of a coven working together towards a common intellectual/political/magikal goal seems a lot better to me than simply defining one's own character as unique. While I believe that every character has his strengths and weaknesses, the glue that holds Ars Magica together is the covanent.

So since you're throwing around ideas, let me ask you, will the GM be coming up with the intrigue, or should we be writing it in for ourselves? It looks like Someone like to start his games of in the thick of it. I lean this direction as well, but i like to squeeze my twists in to a GM defined parameter. Got anything to work with so far?

Am I off base yet? :heh:

Somewhat irrelevant, since I won´t be the narrator (or at least the main narrator. I don´t have too much success with my pbp games, and I don´t have the time to run an AM game right now) However, I´m aware of the limitations of the medium, and realize that a long campaing spanning centuries, or even decades, would be too much ambitious. We should aim for something more modest.

There still a spot open in this game? It sounds cool, and I'd like in if possible. I haven't read the rules yet though, and I'd be somewhat of a newbie. If that's okay.

I've never played, but I've got a copy of the free rules from RPGNow. Is there any room left for a player and/or alternate? Let me know so I can know if I should start reading/printing out the rules.

Best,
Nick
