PC problems

My computer is screwed up. In my attempt to download America's Army, I had to take off Neverwinter Nights a few days before. Now, the problem is this, my computer still syas I have 770 megs even though I uninstalled NWN, which was at a hefty 2 gigs I believe.

There is another problem as well. Sometimes my comp runs out of space but it still says I have somewhere around 600-700 megs left, go figure.

Anyone have any suggestions or whatnot?

First off, this would be a very good time to get a new hard disk and add it to your current one (if not outright replace it, depending on your PC's setup). When you have less than 1GB of free space these days, that is not a good thing.

Second, the reason why your system isn't letting you at that free space is because it's probably reserving what little it has for the system swap file. Ever since Windows 3.1, Windows has always used a swap file as an add-on to your system's RAM, giving it more room to work with as you go about your business. By default, this swap file is of variable size, getting bigger or smaller depending on how much RAM you have and how many/how big a program you're running (including the background ones).

Since you didn't state how big the hard disk is, I'll give you a rule of thumb. When your hard disk has less than 25% free space, it's either time to move stuff off to get it up to that level, or it's time to replace/supplement it. Luckily, hard disks are quite cheap these days.
