Thinking about this some more…I’ve been invited to a white-people tacos event and I am conflicted.
Inexpensive & easy things you could bring to expand the group’s horizons would include:
1) pico de gallo
2) different cheese
3) different salsas
4) different greens & veggies, like shredded cabbage* or radish slices
5) fresh tortillas
Going upscale and pricier, you could bring different main fillings, like braised pork shoulder, chopped/sliced chorizo, or sautéed mushrooms.
If you want to blow minds, bring something traditionally associated with another cuisine. Here in the D/FW Metroplex, I’ve seen a fluctuating but generally increasing number of Mexican/Indian fusion places- and it’s a goooood mix! Up until recently, I thought that was just a reflection of the diversity of D/FW’s growing diversity. But it turns out there’s a fairly large number of Indian immigrants living in Mexico.
* for some reason, “cannabis” popped up on the suggested words from my AutoCorrect. The Internet being what it is, I’m sure that people are now making assumptions about me that would easily be refuted in person, but it is what it is.
