I'm kind of a big fan of country fried steak, so that'd have had me going "Really?"

(Not that I eat it often because that's just what my diet needs, but its still probably my go-to comfort dish).

I have a hard time taking any place that calls it a Country Fried Steak seriously. And Brown Gravy?

I’m of the opinion that it’s really, really hard to screw up a burger and what separates these places are the fries or onion rings.

It is surprisingly easy to screw up a burger. I've been to places that are allergic to seasoning.

Salt is usually not a problem with fast food burger places. I can see restaurants like a Denny’s or something halfassing a burger.

My theory is that its not the chicken, its the sauce (I was seriously unimpressed--I'd rather have Popeye's any day--but again, I'm a plain food guy and don't do most sauces).

It's absolutely this. I'm the sole member of the household that isn't fond of Raisin Canes ( I don't actively dislike them - I never crave it... ) but everyone that does is either still in the "everything is too spicey" age or loves the sauce.

It's not a bad sauce.

I think it helps to think of them as different things. I agree that I like lighter California Mex over the sometimes gloppy Tex-Mex stuff, but it also has its appeal.

As to the first part, you'd be astonished how often people get confused and/or argue about something called "chicken fried steak" not being chicken. So I get that part. The brown gravy is pretty odd though.

That was the only thing that made sense, since they seemed amazingly bland compared to almost any other chicken strips I'd ever had.
