It's not you; it's them.
Honestly, as good as it must feel to think that, it's usually the other way around. Missing the fine print on the social contract. Luckily, malice is rarely intended, and objectively viewing the situation both through the lens of self-awareness and from the perspective of others generally fixes these things.

My opinion on persecution complexes... YMMV, IANAL, etc.

Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you.

lol!

Canadian Shipping is such a joy. I make a small order. This would have been a soft/small pack kind of thing.

Shipping Options

Canada Post - 2 bucks, "will not ship until strike is over."

Well that sucks, lets see our options under this drop down.

Fedex - 25 dollars.

I didnt even register the name of the other option, but it was also 20+.

The page was closed, no order made.
This past summer we went on vacation for 4 days to Mount Rushmore before the mining rights deal is signed for Lincoln’s forehead and put a hold on our mail being delivered while we were gone. Cost to us: $0

A few items I had ordered months ago that were delayed ended up shipping via UPS during that time and were going to be delivered the day after we left. I looked into what it would cost to delay or reschedule delivery to the day we were coming back and found it was going to be something like $20 per package. I ended up asking a friend to come by our house and grab them before porch pirates came by at the cost of a 6 pack of his choice of beer next time we get together to game together. There were 4 boxes so that should work out to be cheaper. So stupid.

Well, not really. Depends on the tech, depends on the place, and depends on how we define tech.

Even if we broadly define tech to include things like agriculture, there are some aspects that are regulated and others that are not. As long as you have access to soil, rain, and seeds you can plant and grow whatever you want. It's illegal to grow certain invasive species, etc.

3D printers aren't regulated and you can find files to print guns online. “AI” is completely unregulated.
I would have supported the $?*! out of regulating AI when it may have actually done some good, years ago when the first LLM appeared.

Now though? No point. It's too late. Now, U.S. firms have to continue advancing the tech just to keep up with what state-sponsored cybercriminal organizations are doing with it, because it'll take an AI to stop an AI.

There is no effective international legislative and enforcement mechanism on Earth able to regulate anything. We saw how bad international coordination was during the pandemic.

It's nauseatingly disappointing, but we can't stop it. It's already too late.
