Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Have you seen 24 Hour Party People? It's a sort of biopic of Factory Records, Joy Division, the Hacienda, New Order, Happy Mondays, etc. Serkis plays the, uh, singular music producer Martin Hannett. It's a great movie.
I have not. But now I’ll look it up.

This is actually really plausible world-building on Tolkien's part. In the era before music-recording-and-replaying-technology, people would occasionally just burst into song on, say, a long walk. More musically-inclined people (like orcs) would burst into song more often, but even normally terrible people (like elves) would sing to pass the time. Fortunately, now we have MountDoomScrolling to take care of that.

Soldiers also do a cadence. You are right though, I think there was a lot more group singing while doing activities.

Looking into Mythic India stuff, and found that, among the supernatural races that share the Earth with humans, are Apsaras (celestial dancers) and their counterparts, the Gandharvas (celestial musicians, i.e. BARDS). They are among the devas, the "good" guys. So, @Snarf Zagyg will apparently be among the asuras, the "bad" guys, in my eventual Mythic India game...

EDIT: Maybe I'll make them gnomes? I haven't found a really detailed physical description, but I'm working through a couple of handicaps, e.g. my inability to read Sanskrit and my general dumbness.

See, the problem is your lack of knowledge of Sanskrit.

Bards aren't devas. They are DIVAS.

You're welcome.
