"My character is totally different and unique! I can't wait to shake things up in the next campaign!"

☑ Dead parents, again.
☑ Martial/caster hybrid, again.
☑ Same 15-14-13-12-10-8 ability scores.

On the one hand, I see what you're saying--there are some kinda obvious best-ish choices, and there are some players who will always make the same ones (Of the ones you've listed, martial/caster hybrid is a pretty narrow choice, IME, it's nowhere near ubiqitous.)

On the other hand, I could see very different characters and narratives coming out of that. Also, while the PCs in the campaign I'm running do have some not-great relationships with their parents, I haven't seen "dead parents" as all that recurring a theme. I mean, it's a trope--and not just in TRPGs.

Mostly I'm just making fun of my players. We rolled up new characters a couple of weekends ago for an upcoming campaign, and it was amazing how many of them had nearly identical characters, right down to the ability scores and choice of weapon...yet they insisted their characters were "totally different" from each other.

(Let's just say it was really easy to pick out that one player who chose to roll the ability scores instead of using point-buy.)

This is why I force randomness in the game as much as possible: spell mishap tables, roll hit points at level-up, random encounters, whatever else I can think of. I think predictability is great when I'm driving, but it's boring as all hell in an RPG.

Joking aside, is there any reason why this cobranding is worse than * gestures broadly at the rest of marketing *

I ate some Mr. Beast candy bars around Halloween. They were perfectly forgettable.
Oddly, that’s not my post you quoted, despite my name being on it. And if you click on my name, it goes back 7 pages.
