Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

It can be great if everyone’s in a trade or has otherwise useful skills. You help with my pipes and I help with your roof, for example. It’s when office drones are involved it breaks down. Sorry, but I’m not helping repaint your house if all you have to offer is writing a report.
I used to have a "friend" who was in construction (site super). After a while I realized that I was only getting invited to things when there was a manual labour task to be done. for example I got invited to his cottage when he had to dig a new septic pit. Fun!

The last time I saw him was when I was invited to his housewarming, after his first house purchase. When I got there, there were people all over the place fixing things. He met me at the door, handed me a roll of wire, and TOLD me he needed 3 phone cables run, then walked away. I set it down at the door and went home.

I've got an ancient Oldsmobile. The AC is long dead, both the upolstery and the paint look like hell, and the various window seals are slowly fading.

I don't bother to lock it because anything I need to keep temporarily is in the trunk (and it has no in-car trunk release) and if someone is capable enough to start it up without a key they can probably get into it locked without one too, and its not liable to be a high priority target given its age and condition (though it still runs reasonably).
Good choice. And if it's locked then some teen would likely just smash the window, looking for loose change.

Yeah. That sucks. Offering help, gifting help, and getting the same in return are what I’m talking about. Actual friends, family, and community helping each other. Not that abusive crap.

I talked to someone who had stayed, later on, and it turned out that all the people I'd seen working on stuff were his subordinates, from the construction company. So he pressured his employees to work on his house, for nothing. What a douche.

The only difference between me and a professional plumber is that I've done the job you want me to do five times in my life - the plumber's done it five times that week... You're paying for their experience.
At our previous house, 30+ years ago, my grand uncle installed a replacement garbage disposal. After some time & heavy use, it finally died, and we had to get it replaced.

The plumber started working on it, but soon ran into a problem. It took him a MUCH longer time than expected and an impressive amount of profanities to remove the broken appliance. When he finally succeeded, he looked more closely at where he’d been working, and exclaimed, “What stupid *#%¥$§ superglued the pipes together?”
