I'm so tired of living in "unprecedented times."

Yeah. Precedented would be nice for a bit.
Build a time machine.

Yeah. When I was a pre-teen and teenager in the 80s I always looked down my nose at pre-ripped, pre-faded, and shotgun jeans. That was less about me having any pride in taking care of my clothes and more a teenagers misplaced sense of pride at having earned my faded, ripped jeans.

And yet, I was a hypocrite, because I loved buying stuff from the army surplus store and I certainly hadn't earned the used look of that stuff.

In my 50s, I have two modes, formal business attire with everything clean and in good shape and dress like a bum at home and the weekends. It is not that I wear worn out casual clothes as a fasion statement. I'm just a cheap ass, resent the money and time I'm spending on updating and cleaning my work clothes, I can't be bothered looking nice out of work.
There's definitely a difference between buying used stuff at thrift or surplus stores, and buying things that are artificlally made to look used. The former is just being thrifty, the latter is stupidity.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it stupid. I don't care much for fashion beyond dressing appropriately for the expectations of my work environment. What other people decide to spend their money on is rarely of any concern for me. I'm sure more people would look askance as my spend on TTRPG geek stuff than would look on people buying new clothing with a worn-in look.

I mean, if I had my way, everyone would wear coveralls with their names stitched on the front. Practical, comfortable for any body type, and address my poor ability to remember people's names.

That thread is going places.

No, no, not good places. I'm thinking more of something shaped vaguely like a Tesla cybertruck, but more attractive to raccoons.

I saw one on the road the other day and it took me a full three minutes to understand what I was seeing

Welp, I saw my first Cyber Truck in the wild today here in Portland. Well. It was something. Not good something, but something.

It is not uncommon for me to look over new threads and the only thing that comes to mind is "I don't care." So, naturally, I ignore those threads and move on. I've never understood why other folks seem compelled to take the time to go into threads they don't care about to tell everyone they don't care. I don't mean people going into threads to complain about some trend or rule, etc., they don't like. I may find such posts annoying, depending upon the poster's language and level of antagonism. But I at last understand somewhat the psychology behind the compulsion to complain.

But taking the time to post "I don't care" or "meh", where does that come from? Is it that they do care and this is just a way to passive aggressively complain or be dismissive? It is the only way I can make sense of it. If one truly does not care, why take the time to post that fact instead of ignoring the thread altogether?
