At my former employer, they transitioned us from "bank your vacation, we'll pay it out" till "Nah, we're not going to do that anymore, 0 rollover" in a 6 month period.Thing is I generate so much of it. I work from home, and can pretty much do anything I need to do and not use my vacay. I know, bad problems to have right?
In other news, the company used to pay out vacay upon layoff. My former boss told me (probably shouldn't have) that during a round of layoffs they looked over each employee's file. He said the HR guy did a cartoonish double take at my figures. Based on years with the company, and vacay reserve, they would owe me like 9 months severance. Average was like 6 weeks. I was too expensive to lay off. Of course, that just means if layoffs come around again (God forbid) i'll probably be doing the work of three people like last time.
So, yeah, Id love a cash out option.
Trying to take 47 days of vacation over 6 months while still getting actual work done was an interesting challenge.
