Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

This raises the question - are mangos so good because they are good, or because you are local to them in a tropical paradise when you eat them?

Many things are made better for being in a tropical paradise.

Why not both?

I think that the real difference is freshness and quality.

Look, I know that there are some people out there that don't like mangoes. Bards. Elves. People born without the ability to taste. Jeffrey Dahmer and Tim Allen.

But mangoes, like most fruit people get in the supermarket in the US, is just a pale imitation of what it can be. Think of the difference between, say, a random beefsteak tomato and a canestrino di Luca fresh from the vein in Italy.

Or, as I mentioned previously, dragonfruit. I have never had a dragonfruit that was even acceptable in the US. But that's not because dragonfruit are bad- it's because the dragonfruit that you get in a supermarket in the US are bad.

Fresh mangoes, locally grown? Nothing compares.

Bonus fun fact- If you live in an area where you can get fresh mangoes, you know what happens. You wait and wait and wait for them, and then they appear, and you're so happy. Except that they ALL COME AT ONCE. And so you go from no mangoes, to happy, to what the heck am I going to do with all of these mangoes?

(I should also add that I did see the Sungold Kiwis recently. Worth the price, IMO.)

So I lived in Italy for 3 years from 2010-2013 and during my time there I used to buy tarocchi blood oranges which I think are only grown in a specific part of the country which has a lot of volcanic deposits in the soil (Sicily?). @Nikosandros might be able to correct me on that, but they were absolutely amazing and I've never been able to find anything close to them here in the US. I've found some in upscale grocery stores that claim to be legit, but they're never the same thing.

My wife is going back home to Italy to visit family later this year and has promised to taunt me with pictures of them. :(

Yes, arance Tarocco are wonderful and they are indeed cultivated in Sicily. They are more expensive, but I try to get them when they are available because they are great! :)
