True fact-

There were a lot of kids that, um, overvalued the cinematic excellence of Princess Leia in the gold bikini.

I have no issue with the bikini itself (it is quite in genre and fits the tone) but that isn't the thing that I had in mind when I was so in love with Jedi. I liked the ewoks too. It is just one of those things. It landed with me more (which I think was a combination of factors). I also liked the emotional endings of both Empire and Jedi together. As I got older, I started to lean more into Empire as my favorite, and I appreciated A New Hope more. It is harder to judge them for their cinematic value as time goes on though because Lucas has made so many edits and changes that the composition of the shots are different (so my reaction when I watch those movies now is they look kind of sloppy, but I am not sure how much of that is Lucas changing things)

I think it is fair to say that Empire and RotJ are both good, and Empire is often more beloved because it has a couple really strong emotional punches.

What it lacks is the amazing RotJ space battle. I am a sucker for space battles and RotJ's still stands up.

FYI, there is a fan restoration project for these films online. It is an amazing years long project to attempt to restore the movies to the original theatrical release.

I had previously not seen these movies since the “Special” edition release in the movie theaters, mostly because I could at least remember a better version from before.
