My idiot co-worker asks me to order a replacement NVMe drive for a Dell laptop. I ask him if the laptop already has the adapter to make it fit in a full length SSD slot and he says yes. He's on vacation this week, so another (very good) co-worker picks up the call. Sure enough, no bracket. I hate being a PCard holder :(

The technical problems are easy to solve, compared to the people problem. Like, I imagine just how helpful and useful a transporter would be...until I remember that kidnappers, thieves, and murderers still exist.

I'll note in the setting it comes from, transporters that don't require a pad or other connection at both ends are a government monopoly, and blocking them isn't that hard. Most fictional matter transmission doesn't even begin to assume it can be done without a transmitter and a receiver.

The biggest problem with matter transmission if it was technically possible is the physical risks and convincing people using it would be okay.

With respect, transporters have technical problems that will cause you to explode, freeze into ice, or take off at 1000+ mph upon materialization on every use.

People will only occasionally make you explode.
