Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Everything is in flux now with legal in some places not legal in others.

This is compounded by the fact that there is no equivalent to the breathalyzer for THC. While alcohol and its effects come and go more or less in unison, and relatively quickly, THC is detectable in the blood for days or even weeks after it has stopped having neurological effects. That means a positive test to THC doesn't speak to whether the person was impaired at the time they were driving.

Its funny my wife used to administer drug tests, but that was years ago before all the legalization/decriminalization.

I have to wonder how many flags would be getting tripped these days. "I'm clean I swear!" right...

EDIT: And right on time, there's the "time to wake up" hacking and coughing from my neighbor as they start their wake and bake day, brb closing my windows.

I havent had a manual since my '76 camaro. I did enjoy it, but cant say I miss it.
I think.. After about 12 years with three cars.. I'm possibly over it.

The first one wasn't intentional. It was my second car.. First one I bought all by myself. (First car being a cheap piece of garbage Dodge Neon bought off a distant relative off the bad advice from my father. He at least helped pay for it.) But it was a 2004 Mazda 3. It was amazing. I actually passed on it at first because it was a manual. It was like the perfect car. Ticked all my boxes, and more.. It was like "Oh man. This is almost the perfect car. Shame I can't drive a stick." after another week of looking I hadn't found anything better, and it was still available, and dropped even lower in price. I figured I at least had to go check it out.

Bought the car, and my step-mom taught me how to drive it in the parking lot of a hotel across from the dealer before I drove it the ~75 minutes home. I loved that car.. Unfortunately I was young and stupid and blew it up from neglect after only about 18 months of owning it. After that point though, a manual transmission became a non-negotiable on my list of features.

Had a 2012 Nissan Juke with a 6-speed for about 8 years and drove that baby into the ground. 190k miles(I was responsible for 120k of them) , and two confirmed deer kills before I finally put it out to pasture. I've had a 2020 Subaru Impreza for the last two years now and it's a great car... Don't get me wrong.. But I'm getting older now, and my priorities are starting to shift. Going on vacation with the girlfriend who can't drive a stick, for instance was a huge drag. Also, getting stuck in traffic with a manual is awful.

I'll miss it.. But I think the next car will probably be an auto.

It was funny moving to a legal state and job hunting. I saw a lot of ads that said

"WE'RE A DRUG FREE WORKPLACE. MUST BE WILLING TO TAKE DRUG TEST PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT OFFER"*

*excludes THC

I'd probably enjoy a modern stick over my old Muncie 4 speed in the camaro. It wasn't exactly smooth even if it was fast as hell. Though, I live in an urban space and think id eventually get annoyed driving manual with all the stops and traffic.

I played Doki Doki Literature Club last night.

A friend of mine had bought it for me for Christmas a few years ago and I had forgotten all about it, so it sat in my Steam library for years. I finally picked it up yesterday purely on a whim, because it looked like a cute little anime VN/dating game and I was in the mood for something light and shallow.

I went in totally blind, not knowing anything at all about it...I didn't even visit the Store Page for it. I just clicked "Install," and then "Play," and then four and a half hours fly by and I'm at the final scene and I'm all like

It's a brilliant deconstruction of anime/VN game tropes. It's a self-aware game, in the sense that House of Leaves is a self-aware book.

Actually, it sort of turns that House of Leaves idea on its head: where House of Leaves deconstructs the horror genre to reveal a love story at its core, Doki Doki Literature Club deconstructs the dating sim genre to reveal a horror story at its core.

It's brilliant, but hoo boy. I wasn't ready.

I absolutely love driving stick. To me, there is driving, which is stick, and there is transportation, which is everything else.

One of the unfortunate and sad collateral effects of the otherwise great benefits of EV and hybrids is that they will lead to the complete end of the stick (yes, I know that there are some attempts to make a pseudo-shifter, but c'mon).

I know that on this issue, I'm like the old person screaming at clouds, shouting, "Y'all should use a typewriter, or better yet, a FOUNTAIN PEN!" but nothing connects you with the road, with the visceral feel of driving like a stick shift.

Anyway, the reason I am quoting this passage is because the one benefit of a stick shift? Friends don't ask to borrow your ride.

At least, I think so? Note to self- acquire "friends" and test hypothesis.

Everything is in flux now with legal in some places not legal in others. Probably take time, and an occurrence of accidents, before action gets taken on THC and driving. That said, I find the edibles more problematic than the smoking. Folks often have no idea what they are getting into with those. Fortunately, the folks I know who use edibles know better than to drive on them.

Here is it is legal. We have dispensaries all over the place. Lately there have been more and more ad campaigns by local police reminding people that driving under the influence of any drug, including pot, is illegal.

Edibles strike me as being a bit like the jello shots of the pot world

I've gotten to drive a lot of cars.. And not all sticks are made equal. For instance.. My Subaru isn't the best.. It's not bad.. But it's... Just fine..

The Nissan was one of the easiest manuals I've ever operated. I got kind of lazy driving it. (The Hyundai Veloster N also has an absurdly easy manual to operate.)

The Mazda though.. It was perfect. Modern Hondas have stellar manual transmissions as well.

Anyway, the reason I am quoting this passage is because the one benefit of a stick shift? Friends don't ask to borrow your ride.

This is very true. Though, over the years I've taught 5 different people how to drive a manual. One of those friends went on to purchase a manual Mini! It's a good way to stress test a friendship.

DDLC has the problem that it's so hard to share. You got the best experience going in completely blind.. It's hard to pitch a game like this to friend because on one hand you kind of feel like you owe it to them to give them some sort of content warning.. But on the other hand, the least they expect it the better the experience.

I'm glad you got to experience it

Can be, yes. When smoked, the person feels the impact within moments. Edibles can be time released in unpredictable ways. Ive seen folks go from, "man these are bunk not feeling anything..." to barely able to stand 20 min later. Imagining that kind of transition while a person is behind the wheel is frightening.
