I try to avoid excess negativity in my life. I don't hang out with gloomy people, I avoid nihilist movies and books. I try to avoid dwelling on things I find unpleasant or upsetting, especially if they're little things that don't affect my life, or things that I have control over. Hobbies and games, for example: they aren't really worth the stress and frustration. Life is short and my free time even shorter: I can always find something else to do.
But there are some folks who seem to define themselves by what they hate, how intensely they hate it, and how long they've hated it. Hating Things is their hobby, it seems, and they are always dragging it around and showing it to people no matter what the conversation or circumstances happen to be. "Yes I agree the climate is changing HOWEVER did you know that I hate pineapple? I just wanted to make sure I mentioned it, again, in case someone wants to fight me about it."
