The thing about institutions upgrading their technology (and especially user software), it's always much worse until people start to learn how to use it. I haven't had any experience with this OverDrive but I can tell you that Libby has been a godsend for many of our patrons.Yes, but there's a bit of a gap between, "The people who know the use case and accept the solution are not great at UX" and "Got taken to the cleaners".
And that's not even counting the possibility that they didn't get taken to the cleaners, but that there's a compromise going on that we aren't aware of.
LIke, again, for libraries, there was an app many used for distributing electronic media - epubs and audiobooks, mostly, called "OverDrive". And it was pretty good. Not that long ago, Overdrive was replaced by "Libby" from the same providers. Libby, when it shipped, was really not as good as OverDrive.
But, if you looked at some of the missing features, it seemed like they may have needed to make some changes due to rising use - that OverDrive was good, but didn't scale very well.
