(Rereading some popular threads from 2024.)
Every time I see a new user throwing a hissy-fit about the moderators here at EN World, I shake my head and chuckle. Especially when they double-down and attempt to garner support from other people in the thread, by calling out the moderators. How did that work out for you, Mr. Spicy McHot-Take?
No, you aren't being "silenced." You aren't being "censored" or "cancelled," your rights aren't being violated, you haven't been wronged in any way. Here's what happened, my forgetful friend:
You were invited into someone's private space. However, the invitation was conditional--every guest was given a list of rules, and you agreed to follow them. Well you decided to break those rules, and now you are appalled to discover that you are no longer welcome. You thought this would be just like every other public space you have visited...maybe you expected your behavior to be met with the aloof indifference of YouTube, or the toxic echo-chamber culture of Twitter, but instead a moderator grabbed you by the collar and threw you out.
I apologize for laughing; I'm sure it must have been quite a shock for you. But we see this happen all the time, and it's always hilarious.
And let me be perfectly honest with you: I wouldn't have it any other way. The proactive moderators are a big reason why I've been a member for 18 years and counting. They actively participate in the threads, they respond to reports, they follow-up on problematic users, and it shows. This website has a reputation for quality, and it didn't happen by accident. If this place ever becomes as poorly moderated as YouTube, or as overrun with bigots and parrots as Twitter has been, I'll find better places to spend my time.
