Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

You have not seen the true Walter Koenig, until you have seen him as Oro in the Canadian SciFi series "Starlost."

Aahhhhhhh, Starlost.

That’s one of those series I watched as a kid, but only half-remembered as an adult- couldn’t even remember the name. Back in 2021-22, I had a sudden flash memory of a particular episode, and successfully tracked it down on YouTube.

Several familiar faces got cast in it. John Colicos (Baltar) was in one episode, too. Barry Morse was in it, too.

There was a thing in the DC area that was afterward referred to as "Commutageddon," when the snow A) was preceded by rain, to wash the melt-treatments off and B) arrived just as evening rush hour was starting. It took like eight hours for my friend and I to get home--and we knew someone who didn't make it home until late the next morning.

May the gawds have mercy on your souls.
Despite what many might think, Toronto doesn't really get a lot of snow these days. It's quite unlike what happened just one month after I first got my current job. Mayor Mel Lastman called in the army. I work just around the corner from where the CBC recorded Yonge Street, in the first video on this page.

That's the one Harlan Ellison was associated with, right? I remember reading a thing he wrote about some TV series, and all his conflicts (shocking!) with the producers, and I think that was it.

Robin Ward, who played Garth, was a weatherman on a local CTV affiliate through the '90s. Harlan Ellison created the show and I'm pretty sure that it was filmed at the same studios, CFTO Toronto, where Ward was a weatherman. Another notable alum was Barry Morse, who would later be on "Space: 1999."

Ellison hated the way that it played out. I just read that he wrote a book lambasting the experience, in fiction. Producers are a pox on the industry (says a guy who has been promised a few producer credits for indie films).

Ellison was associated with SEVERAL TV series. Besides Starlost, he wrote for Star Trek, The Outer Limits, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and others. And apparently, had disputes with more than one show’s production team.

Apparently, people in his circle prompted Ellison to seek professional help, which resulted in a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. According to those around Harlan, it was kind of an “AHA!” moment.

Yeah, he blew up a lot of professional relationships. Like, really a lot.
Apparently, Stephen King prompted Ellison to seek professional help, which resulted in a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. According to those around Harlan, it was kind of an “AHA!” moment.
That seems plausible, all the way around.

Ellison also came to terms with the fact that he had a monumental ego. He didn't change, but did at least accept the fault.

Harlan Ellison played essentially a caricature of himself in Scooby Doo! Mysteries Incorporated (2010-2013) that made it clear that at least at that point we was capable of laughing at himself.

Also bonus: it's a damn good Scooby Doo show in general
