Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Quite literally me and my Dad. We have had this discussion way too many times, hes a Tech Enthusiast, I've been telling him for over 20 years that its all a problem, and we just cannot get on the same page.
I definitively fall into the "Tech worker" category. My wife jokes about it constantly. But she also let me pick the baby monitor we got, because she knew I'd be paranoid about it and find one reasonably secure. And, to be sure, ours has absolutely no internet connectivity at all; it's an old radio type with encrypted signals. You could hang out somewhere nearby and tap into it, but at that point, hopefully I'd spot you...

I've been calling it "revised 5th Edition," because that's what it is. (shrug) Not sure it matters, though.
It doesn't outside of "which books?"

My brother is both, so ¯\(ツ)

Yeah well, I have feelings on that but probably not for the best. ;)

He also knows network security so there's that. I know at his home they have Alexa, since they have 4 kids all with autism so no need to keep track of a remote lol but OTOH every device that can be connected to has a different password and they use a VPN for their internet. EDIT: They don't have one of those smart fridges or other smart appliances, just tvs, printer, network for the computers, the doorbell cam.

I found you a guide for building an off grid shack

Not exactly what I had in mind. There are much better tiny homes one can build at a reasonable price, on land one owns, to retreat from the idiocy of well...just look around.
I've seen some really interesting ones, recently, that are being used as rental cabins. Integrated solar and the like.

Bit of solar, water filtration, wood obviously, a few rooms, bathroom, and a kitchen/central living area? Done. I'm not in a huge place as it is, life can be done in a very simple, human way, and most of the rest of this is just the artificial 'creation' of wealth, the majority of which is going to people pulling the strings anyway.

Anyway, I'm sure I'm upsetting trappedslider by indicating that a life separated from this modern hellscape would in fact be preferable to some of us, so we dont need to belabour it.
