Dammit I hate when I fail my Wis save. Sigh.

In other annoying news, I got my my Facebook feed today. There was a post from a friend at the top, great. Then SIXTEEN spam posts and advertisements. Then another post from a friend. Then TWENTY spam posts. I can't even. I mean, I use FB to keep in touch with folks from way back. I understand they need ad revenue but holy crap.

Pretty much explains why I deleted mine back in 2016ish. There were also reasons I can't explain without red text responding, but it was becoming harder and harder to see what I went there to see and at the time, Twitter was a better alternative for just keeping up on news and events before it too made it harder to see what I went there to see. And reasons that would result in red text. 2 for 2 sample size and all that, but those 2 seem to go hand in hand and I'm not convinced it isn't a coincidence.

glares at BlueSky Don't you think about it...

ETA: I will say losing touch with some people I knew from way back sucked, but the reality is if they weren't someone I had other means to connect with, were they really my friends anymore?

I find that if I dutifully tell them that each advertisement isn't anything that I care about, they go away for a while. Unfortunately, they still want to present me with posts from other people and groups more often than my friends. Their goal is to increase engagement. Mine is to communicate.

It's been hit and miss for me -- about every four or five times I get on it is a huge wall of ads. The rest of the time it is bearable.

When it is the huge wall I go through and click get rid of on about 20 of them and then log off and try to be productive.

I’m fine with just Bluesky now. I realized most of the people I was friends with on Facebook were due to just a sort of “hey, I know you” sense of obligation, if that’s the right word. There was very little actual interaction, just a stream of likes on photos. Then you start noticing people posting about certain subjects, and what people start liking those posts, and I started to dread opening the app. I was very glad to be rid of that place.

Bluesky is my Twitter do-over. I follow maybe a hundred people max, all of whom I’m either a regular reader of, or are people I’ve actually interacted with. No following celebrities for the sake of following celebrities and if I get even a whiff of someone trying build up their follower base to market to, I unfollow. It’s been working really well for me.

Especially when your feed is full of posts that someone you're friends with liked. There were options to filter that out of your feed, just like there were options to default your feed to show the most recent posts but social media loooooves pushing engagement and just like that my settings would constantly default back to showing me junk people I know liked or "Top Stories". I don't even recall FB being overloaded with ads in 2016ish, it was just junk I didn't care to see when I just wanted to see what my friends were up to.

Heaven help me on YouTube if I watch 1 video that strays from my normal viewing habits.

In the end I found FB just not worth it. If im not hit with thousands of ads, its all just peoples cats and racist rants. I dont really care to keep in touch about those things. My social media is basically discord servers and EN World now.

lol I found myself recently being like "oh whats this?....waaaaiiiit a min better not!"
The first time I clicked a video someone posted here to see how it related to what was being discussed was also the last time. It took me about 2 weeks to clean my feed up from "WotC is destroying D&D!1!!" rant videos. It actually makes the views of the folks who just constantly hate on WotC make a lot more sense if that's what their YouTube feed looks like.
