Is it just me, or do many, many people on the internet not understand what the words "underrated" or "obscure" mean?...

Well, part (but not all) of the problem is that both of those terms are very localized. And in general, people have a big problem separating personal experiences from facts.

When the facts change based on your surroundings and people refuse to acknowledge their surroundings, what can you do?

I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time hearing you with my fingers in my ears while I'm loudly singing, "LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" Could you please repeat that?

Right, but the internet is where I ask about "underrated games" and such like.
That tends to be relative based in context to what it’s compared to. Just because something has a strong community and fan base doesn’t mean it can’t still be underrated or even obscure when compared to the largest games. Also, everyone starts somewhere with learning about a game (or anything for that matter).

be that as it may, there is no world in which "Baldur's Gate 3" is an answer to "sell me on an underrated CRPG."
