Did you ever get the root beer and cream soda in the massive jugs? We would go down to the drive-in and get them refilled. When my parents divorced, my father made sure to take them with him.I remember when there were still A&W drive-ins when I was young. Wasn't the best food ever, but there was always a little something to it (and the root beer in the frosted mugs was special).

The chain I remember from childhood is Roy Rogers. They had burgers and fried chicken, and there was one in the shopping plaza just a few blocks away when we were living outside Philadelphia the years I was 12-14. Occasionally our folks would let my little brother and me walk over there (which was a nice little piece of feeling independent) and I could get both a hamburger AND a piece of fried chicken (which felt like a great luxury/variety). Though in retrospect the quality was not great and I over-condimented my burgers.I remember when there were still A&W drive-ins when I was young. There was a Roy Rogers right next door to the theatres in Shoppers World Brampton, when i was in high school. We once had a field trip there to watch "The Charge of the Light Brigade", for history class, and I had lunch at Roy Rogers afterwards. The chain I remember from childhood is Roy Rogers. That same plaza had a used bookstore where I most of my paperback SF and fantasy titles other than my parents' shelves. Including the Thieves' World series, Asprin's Myth books, and Burroughs' John Carter of Barsoom series with the amazing Michael Whelan covers.
