Some folks really really hate Die Hard being a Christmas movie. They simply cant see the joy it brings to a lot of folks and just demand that their standard of a Christmas movie must be adhered to. It just feels totally out of the spirit of the season to me.
It is more of a Xmas movie than one of the most beloved Xmas movies, It’s a Wonderful Life. (I watch them both each year).

Speaking of Die Hard’s status as an
Xmas movie, (in relation to a certain thread): some people just want to try to have the most fun possible and the trying itself is part of that, and some people just want to argue what cannot be fun (and that is apparently fun for them).
I mean, isn't invalidating others and making it known your way is superior the best form of fun? (It is, this is unarguable.)

Also, between vacation time and lighter impact days at work, I think a lot of people just have extra time available to argue about meaningless pedantries around Christmas. But not everyone can rise to the professional-grade stuff of TTRPG discussions. "Is Die Hard a Christmas movie" is a good entry-level starting point for amateurs who've never lived through an edition war. Or a vacation for those of us who have. :p

That, and any alternative to arguing politics with relatives has value. And there's no shame in honing your skills with randos on the internet before the big event.
