Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I've seen the tai chi ads you mentioned on YouTube and they do say made with AI in small print. I haven't seen (that I know of) baerskin ads with AI.

Most of the ads I see are for old people. Perfect demographic for scammers. The only AI I see are those pill commercials with the AI voice. Get a boner for just pennies, thank you very much.

The responses to the news that Greta Gerwig's Narnia movies start with The Magicians Nephew makes me weep for everyone's English teachers.

"Hur, it happened first chronologically, so of course you should make that movie first" is a real failure to understand how storytelling works.

I really like The Magicians Nephew, but most of its power comes from the reader finally understanding a lot of Narnia's mysteries. Without that build up, a lot of it is just "OK, cool, someone threw a piece of a London street lamp to the ground in Narnia, whatever."

(Also, the reordering of the books to make Magicians Nephew #1 -- which is probably the real reason why it's being filmed first -- is due to a shady dude attaching himself to the Lewis estate and figuring out that he can get a piece of the pie if they now publish renumbered collections with the "definitive" order or whatever BS they're calling it.)

This was something I argued a lot with my middle school librarian over, she would always push reading series in chronological order. It didn't take long before I stopped listening to her.

Totally with you on that one. I also don't advocate people watching the prequel trilogy of Star Wars before the original trilogy. Just because it's in chronological order by content doesn't mean it's better storytelling.I find it's generally better to read/watch in chronological order by production since that's the order in which the author/director/creator developed things.
This has been a hobby horse of mine forever. The Elric stories are my go-to example where real world publication order is always best.

Same applies (not quite as severely) to Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser.

Edit: I guess my one counterexample is Discworld. The first couple/few books are among the weakest in the series, and fans have done a great job identifying other great entry points throughout the series, often books where a particular favorite character or faction is introduced.

Shortly thereafter, I made an observation: I could name dozens of works of fiction that presumed humanity had reached a post-scarcity (as we understand it) level of civilization, but couldn’t come up with a single full story about how the transition occurred and how we weathered it. At most, I found works that mentioned it in passing- essentially glossing over any real details.
I was thinking about star trek last night, and wondering just how advance the tech was before world war 3 happened, and the transition to post-scarcity.

We know they were able to launch several space missions based on events shown in the various tv shows, and at least being able to do genetic modifications based on the eugenic wars/Khan/bans and cryogenics (Botany Bay).

I wouldn't think that they were much more advanced than we are now. Probably just less regulated. We can do modifications to the human genome now, but there are international accords in place. We have nuclear and ionic propulsion tech. Nuclear has issues with the whole "don't put nukes in orbit" thing and while ionic is in its infancy, it can do a slow and constant push that is incredibly efficient. Both require reaction mass.
