Imagine if you'd chosen a new artist who could capture the same sort of feeling that you get when you first saw that art on the Planescape box set, rather than just selecting the person who did it before.
Okay.

That would be a fine choice. Inferior, IMO, to the one they made, but a fine choice.

DiTerlizzi is a known quantity. Trying to find an artist who could somehow capture lightning in a bottle again . . . easier said than done.

I don't actually think the motive is important. If they supported Open Gaming as a philosophy because they thought t was ultimately the most profitable option, that's fine with me.
Okay.

I wasn’t saying that it matters in some moral sense, I was saying that they have always been profit driven, because they’re a publicly traded company, so it was never a good idea to trust them.

How in the world are they supposed to know if some rando is going to be able to affect the same emotional response than the original and why would they take a chance on that when the guy that did it is right there?

Also, we don't need any magic to see the alternate universe where they didn't where this discussion is about how not hiring him is totally a calculated plot with the intention to disrespect the Old Guard.

It's just like bringing Claremont back to write a Wolverine story for the 50th anniversary: it is obviously a plot to anger fans of the original Claremont run.

Indicting people for objections they never actually made in response to a scenario that never actually happened doesn't strike me as adding anything productive to this thread.

If you have difficulty understanding the point that WotC's approach to settings post-Eberron has been souless nostalgia baiting I don't know how to help you comprehend any further.

Mod Note:
With this, you are casting failure to agree with your personal opinion on aesthetics as a cognitive flaw.

That's making this personal, and insulting, which is not acceptable. Please find better ways to handle opinions that don't match yours going forward.
