When our gaming session fell on Talk Like a Pirate day, I wore my pirate costume to the game.

When the hell is talk like a pirate day?????

My wedding rehearsal fell on Halloween and I dressed like Doctor Midnite from the JSA comics. My wife dressed like a computer programmer who was afraid she was marrying a super hero.

Talk Like A Pirate Day is september 27th, if I remember correctly...

Anyway, the poll didn't have an option for "Not that I know of among other players, and I don't do it personally."

That said, I do have a costume I wear to the ren fair every summer, but I wouldn't wear it to a game...swords aren't very comfortable to wear on your back or hip when you're in a chair. And I DM in a chair 90% of the time (On a natural 1, it's a stool, and on a natural 20, it's a couch that can reach the table). Oh, and I don't particularly like the idea of putting on/taking off those boots more than once in a day...

I did have a great idea involving sock puppets once where a player who'd turned invisible and should not be spoken to would have to wear a sock puppet. The players in that particular group, some of whom are here quite a bit didn't take it too well. I chalked that up to me not being persuasive enough.

You don't understand, Dread - we fear the sock puppet. It's scary.

As for the original question, no, it's not something I'd be into. I do dress differently when I game because we game on weekends and I finally can stop wearing my work clothes - yay, jeans! :D I have used small props from time to time - there was a character I played who found a mysterious crystal amulet and I found a necklace that reminded me of it and wore it to game. But that's about it.

You know, for a bunch of D&D nerds, you guys are awfully insecure! :)

About the closest I've ever done was bringing a fife for one of my characters who was a bard. I played it during the game a few times. (A fife is a 6-holed flute, for those that don't know). After a couple of levels, I decided I hated the bard class, and remade the character into a sorcerer/rogue, but retained some of the perform abilities.

It wasn't. Sorry if anyone took it that way, it was completely unintentional.

You are to kind, my friend, aplogizing at the drop of a hat. :)

Take care, I think I am leaving the board, there is to much anger and hatred here in some of the threads.

Be at peace, be yourself, love, honor, be loyal, and tell the truth when you can.

Good bye

Sorry but... people who do that sort of thing give our hobby bad worse name.

Why should that be? Who is going to know? Unless the people in question wear their costumes to the 7-11 on their way to the game. And even then, who's business is that? They're not hurting anyone.

Our group have always been big fans of props, although we've never worn costumes. Well, that's not entirely true. One GM wore a costume for a Star Trek campaign. He would always wear his captain's uniform shirt while GMing, since the captain was an NPC. We had lots of props for that game. Everyone had a toy phaser and tricorder. I got a lot of enjoyment out of that.

For other games we use smaller props, such as crystals and cheap jewelry to simulate magic items. We also have a collection of toy weapons, such as the plastic axes and swords that are available at Halloween. For our Stargate and d20 Modern games we have some toy guns, and my fiancee sometimes wears a camo cap in his role as the leader of our Stargate team.

It's a nice way to get everyone into character, as Android pointed out. :D

All of my answers are assuming non-LARPing situations...

I've been in a few games where the GM wanted us to dress the parts -- it was kinda fun. I've done it a few more times on my own, partially to see how others would react. And there have been a few folks who have come to my table dressed as their characters.

I think it can be a lot of fun to do now and again. I probably would never do it every single time (though I did know of, did not play in however, a Star Trek game where everyone had uniforms -- they loved it, but a lot of folks found that WAY too geeky).

**shrug**

Method roleplaying can be fun ;-)

Heck, I've even put out snacks and drinks based on particular characters. It's all good.

My big worry is combining dressing up and playing a cross gendered character - a bit scary that!

You should try it. When I play one of my many female characters, I like to shave my legs and wear fishnet stockings, a garter belt and 4-inch pumps. But, you know, that's just to get into character.
