player says his wizard has the paragon half elf feat?

First Post
My player in the undead hunter campaign says he has purchased his first two levels as a 1/2 elf parogon? And his 12th level pc is casting as a 11th Wizard, he has several skill bonuses a bonus feat and they were 1d8 hit pionts per level...I dont have the book here but it seems he really is working the system on this one. He says he has a +24 will save so a 34 on average. Is this anywhere near possible or is he really cheating badly?

He also says he is a member to a arcane order that allows him to pay for spells/feats as he needs them? He says he spends 500 gp and his 3rd level fireball or energy orb is maximised but only costs the 3rd level spell slot.???the 500 gp is sacrificed ..HELP!!!

When you refer to this person as "your player", are we to assume that you are the DM?

And if you are the DM, why are you allowing him to pick feats and PrCs that YOU have no idea what they do?

1. Take a deep breath. Relax. It's all OK.

2. Mage of the Arcane Order is a Prestige Class. That means he can't take levels in it unless you let him (I assume you are the DM, of course).

3. Half-elf Paragon levels are optional. That means he can't take levels in it unless you let him.

Did you specifically allow these options? If so, then it's on your own head. If not, then he needs to run them by you before he takes advantage of them.

Here's a general DMing hint: Don't allow things in-game if you don't understand them. Alternatively, allow them in provisionally. If you don't like how they're working, allow the player to change them out for something more appropriate.

I might add he has two magical items that help this...

He has a Head band +6 int, and a cloak of resistance +5 to all saves.

Doesn't Paragon have HUGE ECL?

If I remember correctly, doesnt any Paragon template add something like +24 ECL to your character? Don't have the Epic Level Handbook on me, but someone can look it up.

If that is the case, then your player wouldn't be able to be a 1/2 elf paragon unless everyone else in your game was 24th level. And if his character has 12 class levels (you said he was 12th level), then that means everyone else has to be level 36. In which case, a +24 on will saves and caster level of 12 aint so bad. =)

If everyone else in the party is in fact around 12th level, then he better reroll a new character and put this one on the shelf till the rest of the party catches up to his "Effective Character Level" 36 dude.

Again, if you are the DM, then you obviously allowed him to have these items. If they are suddenly a problem for you, it's your fault for allowing them. If the player started the game at a higher level and was allowed to pick his own equipment, it is also your fault for not looking over this. If you are NOT the DM, just another player that seems to be getting "out shined" by this player, then bring your concerns to the DM. Not sure what you are looking for here. Would you like Hypersmurf to email this player and repremand him?

Its his house we game at and he has all the books I couldnt pick them up this week.

I dont mind if he finds somethings in the books but I wanted to get a grasp of what they are before playing tonight. Mage of the Arcane order/loremaster/Wizard/1/2 elf paragon these are the things he has mentioned. He also mentioned his BAB is only a 4 but his will is thru the roof.

Any of you have the basics on the above mentioned prstg/paragons

That's the Paragon Template, which isn't the same as, say, Elven Paragon levels.

One is meant to make "The ULTIMATE Bulette," the other is to make "An elf's elf."

Wrong Paragon...Wizards keep reusing words and it confuses people. These are paragon classes for each race in Unearthed Arcana
