player says his wizard has the paragon half elf feat?

Ok so assuming this feat exists (int mod sub for wis mod for saves)

My Monk has Intuit strike which allows his wisdom mod to be used in place of his str for attacks, to hit but not to damage-if I read correctly? So its quite possible this feat exists
He had a 18 int +3 level bumps = 21 + he now has a +6 int amulet/head band. =27 which = a +8 mod +5 robe of resistance (+5 to all saves) + whatever a 10th level Wizard has as a will save . + 2 levels of 1/2 elf paragon so he might be pretty close to his +24 prediction. Thats one hella will save!!!

I don't like the sounds of that feat; makes wis the ultimate dump stat for any arcane caster type, even more so than strength. Where's the feat for clerics to subsitute wis instead of int for skills/level ? ;)

Heh, if a player wants to take a feat like that instead of, oh, Empower Spell, be my guest. Waste of a feat if you ask me.

There are no such thing as "ultimate dump stats" in 3E. There are literally millions of race/class/feat/skill combinations now--far too many for any one stat to be consistently dumped across an essentially infinite number of combinations.

His numbers seem correct, however I didn't understand your statement that the Mage of the Arcane Order allows him to buy feats that he wants. Has he bought more feats than a normal character?

And if it causes you too much headache ... FOR save. Use the Book of Vile Darkness with the spell that puts poison into an area of effect (Psychic Poison I think) and use a poison that does WIS/INT damage.

The feat that substitutes Intelligence for Wisdom on Will saves seems the dodgiest to me. I recall there is a feat to substitute Intelligence for Dexterity on Reflex saves and Charisma for Wisdom on Will saves (both are in Complete Adventurer) but that is it. I will concede that my memory is not perfect, or it could be in one of the few WotC supplements that I do not have, But I'd ask him to show me the actual source book if I were you.

I reccomend getting a copy of his character sheet and posting the whole thing up. I wanna see this. :P

This is why I tell my players Core only unless you ask me first. I do highly reccomend that.

Not sure how he's got his will save juiced up that high, but that's the only thing that doesn't quite check out given the limited information. The only thing you aren't aware of that nobody else has brought up is the "buying" stuff.

He also says he is a member to a arcane order that allows him to pay for spells/feats as he needs them? He says he spends 500 gp and his 3rd level fireball or energy orb is maximised but only costs the 3rd level spell slot.???the 500 gp is sacrificed ..HELP!!!

Sounds like you're mixing two things here.

One - Mage of the Arcane Order has a special ability where you can pull any spell you need from the spellpool. There are catches, naturally - limited uses per day, have to have an empty spell slot to convert (no problem for sorcerors, of course, but they have other issues qualifying for the class), and of course the organization charges a membership fee.

Two - Although I can't find a specific example (something that would maximize a fireball for 500 gp), that sounds an awful lot like Unearthed Arcana's power component system. It's a variant rule in which expensive and powerful material components can, when used with specific spells, apply specific metamagic feats with no spell level or casting time increase.

My diagnosis? You have a problem here, yes, although I probably see it differently than some others. You have a player who is enthusiastic about exploring his options - this is a good thing. You're not familiar with any of it, and he doesn't seem to be filling you in. This is a bad thing. Try to resist panicking if something sounds too good to be true - get him to show you the source, and give it a good read. If he's found something cool that works perfectly for his character - good for him. If he's missed some of the downsides, go over how it actually works together, and give him an opportunity to reconsider using it.

Personally, I'm a lot like your player here. I like combing through books when I'm bored. My characters tend to be planned out well in advance, and pull together options from lots of different sources. What I always make sure to do, though, is give the DM the heads-up before I actually start playing the character, and get approval for anything even slightly outside the norm. Remember, though - good communication goes both ways. :)

I know of one feat which allows you to use your Int score for your will save (and your Spot and Listen checks too).

It was an ancester feat from the 3.5 update for Rokugan in Dragon Magazine. It can't remember the issue number of the top of my head, but it was shortly after 3.5 came out.

The article patterned Ancestor feats after the revised Regional feats in FR: more powerful, but first level only and only one allowed. Whether this is a good idea of not is another question (I think: not), but that could be where he is getting it from.

Of course, he doesn't sound like a Rokugan character :D

Hm, looked it up. At least in Complete Adventurer, there's no feat that lets you use IntMod instead of WisMod for Will saves.

There's only:
Force of Personality (ChaMod instead of WisMod for Will saves)
Insightful Reflexes (IntMod instead of DexMod for Reflsaves)

Four possibilities:
1. It's there but I missed it. I don't think so, but...
2. He's indeed using the Keen Intellect feat from Dragon #318. Unless this is an OA game, he probably shouldn't.
3. He made it up himself, based on the CAdv feats.
4. There's such a feat in some other book, possibly non-WotC.
