player says his wizard has the paragon half elf feat?

If you are ok with people using stuff from books you do not know (I would not without having it shown to me BEFORE using it), then ok, but you could at least let him explain the character to you next session, showing the entries (ALL of them) in the books he is using (he might also have done something wrong without any bad intentions, tho he might as well just be cheating, since he knows you cannot really check it ;)).

As others have recommended, just tell him he can't use anything in a book you don't own or have access to, or certainly not before you have had a chance to look it over. Only the DM can allow things into the game; the mere existence of a gaming product does not automatically mean it's OK for your game.

For the magic items, if you think this player is going to powergame, just decree that you'll be handing out level-appropriate magic items rather than players picking their own.

I don't like the sounds of that feat; makes wis the ultimate dump stat for any arcane caster type, even more so than strength. Where's the feat for clerics to subsitute wis instead of int for skills/level ? ;)

Couldn't tell ya, but the witches handbokk (OGL) has feats that replace a variety of things (init bonus, Ref bonus, etc) with your Wis mod. :)

OK we played last night and here is the basics of his PC.

2 levels of 1/2 Elf paragon, the second level gave him +1 level in existing class (wizard), basically making the 2nd level Paragon free.

4 Wizard levels, 3 lore master levels, 3 levels in Mage of Arcane Order, he did sacrifice the 12th level of caster for his first level of 1/2 Elf Paragon, he felt it rounded out his view of the character, so he is ecctively a 11th level Wizard (personally I wouldnt of but thats his choice).

As far as his will save goes it was +21 and the d20 roll, including a +5 cloak of resistance that he had made/bought with the Order of Arcane Guild, iron will +2, and iron will agian +2, LoreMaster-secret +2 will save, so after all was said and done it did add up.

His armor class was thru the roof, well for a Mage anyways. 10+ magic silk robes (very expensive) that offered a +8 bonus to ac, amulet +2 natural AC, ring of protection +4, loremaster secret +1 AC, unarmored variant +6, and he would cast shield or mage armor on himself.

This is a new character for him, he has never played a Wizard before so after sitting down & talking with him it doesnt seem he was going powergamer on me so much as he was reading all the books, being excited about playing something new, and attempting to pool the vast amount of info on Wizards now, of which they have more than any other class save maybe the Druid, Cleric.

And just to let you guys know we alter DM in our group about every month or so. You guys were asking several questions in this thread so hope that anwers some of them. Usually when I DM I get the books I will need, but this week I just got to busy at work & player was
introducing a new pc & it was a class he has never played before.

PS: I briefly read the Mage of Arcane Order, but can somebody give me the in's and outs of the prtg class ie. pro's & con's.

There is a Greyhawk Regional Feat that allows you to use Int for HPs per level instead of Con.

There is another one that (might not be GH regional though) allows you to use Int for all monk abilities instead of Wis.

Both are from Dragon Magazine, so it wouldnt surprise me that a feat is floating around that does this.

I'm curious as to the bonus types on those, namely "unarmored variant" and "magic sillk robes," which should be more than the 64k that Bracers of Armor +8 are if they arn't an armor bonus.

He probably just doesn't know that Mage Armor and a magical "cloth" armor do not add up.

"Unarmored variant" doesn't sound overly familiar to me, no idea what that might be.

And tell him to drop both Iron Will feats... the second, because he cannot take a feat twice, and the first, because it's pointless for a wizard, who already has a good Will save. Great Fortitude would be much better. ;)
