And much less packed schedules!

It's much easier to fit in other games when all the players don't have to schedule around work, kids schedules, family, etc! It's a wonder I can stick in 2 sessions a month, and all else being equal, my players usually prefer D&D in that time. Though sometimes a one shot of another system sneaks through
Two whole sessions a month? I'm lucky to get one.

Currently I'm only running a D&D game. Over the course of time I've also run or played:

Runequest
Tunnels & Trolls
Villains & Vigilantes
The Fantasy Trip (and my homebrew based on TFT)
Champions
Star Trek (FASA edition, IIRC)
Call of Cthulhu
GURPS
One or two other obscure systems from older times.

I also remember being heavily exposed to Traveller, and to a now-obscure game called The Morrow Project, but I never actually played them.

In the last year I’ve played or run games in:

Star Trek Adventures
Sentinels Comics
Shadowdark
Dragonbane
Daggerheart
FATE
Mechwarrior Destiny
World of Darkness (homebrew hack of the 5th ed system to allow Mages & Changelings)
And about to start a Star Wars game (west end)

Over my lifetime, who knows? Probably more than I can remember!

The difference between those of us who stick with one game vs those that play system of the week (or month) is an interesting question to me.
I would think a part of in is genre. I've been playing since the 80s, and I've played a bunch of different genres. There's no system, even the "universal" systems, that handle every genre as well rules built for the genre does.

I can see that within a genre having a preferred game, but I can't picture someone doing space opera, gritty fantasy, modern spies, and 1920s horror all with the same system when there are so many choices out there that can provide a more tailored experience.

(I'm not putting down those with multiple games within a genre, for example I play 13th Age (2nd), 5e, and Pathfinder 2e Remastered. But that's more different GMs or groups having preferences and I go along with them.)
