[Poll] What aspect of balance causes the most problems?

I don't see the difference between option 1 and 2. Isn't a PC stronger or weaker than another PC because an option he chose is stronger or weaker?

And PCs vs. Challenges has no bearing on balance, to me. DMs are completely in control of the challenges, and can make them stronger or weaker as needed.

Not necessarily. The biggest balance problem I end up with during long-running campaigns is PC vs PC in terms of wealth, and the resulting strength-weakness differences due to the toys they can or cannot afford.

It's something of a fact of life, that long-running senior characters that have some luck are going to end up with more wealth than newer characters; unless they agree to share the wealth (which will never happen in our crew!) it just gets worse over time.

The only answer is for me as DM to give no wealth to anybody, but where's the fun in that?
