PrCs with their own spellcasting lists

Hey, everyone. For a PrC that grants its own (mediocre) spell list, such as the Vassal of Bahamut, would it be unbalanced in either direction to let a character who already has a spell list of relatively equal power (such as a Paladin) simply advance his own spellcasting rather than taking on the spellcasting of the new class?

Might be hard to decide what the rate of advancement is.

In Elements of Magic, all 'caster levels are the same. I've got a PC with levels in 3 'caster classes, 'bout to get his 4th. Works like a charm :)

I do pretty much exactly this for the PrCs in my setting -- if they're going to get a weak spell list, they get Paladin or Ranger spellcasting instead.

However, I do think it's cool to add some PrC specific spells to the PC's spell list.
