Pressing Attack

While I don't have the books with me, I believe that it only functions for a 5 foot step and only when the opponant is moving away from you.

(the second part keeps pole arm users with pressing attack from owning the world)

(at least that's how we used it in the Midnight playtest IIRC.)

What is pressing Attack? Where can I read about it? It sounds like a good way for a fighter to deal with an archer and if so I would like to hear more.

I think it's in a few places, but Dragonstar is the book that I have that it's in.

Basically you get to take a 5ft step when someone in your threat range takes a 5ft step.

Wow. That's a really cool feat. Does anyone think the "only one 5-foot step per round" rule should apply here as well? Or does the cost of having to purchase a feat make up for being able to take a total of 2 (1 on your action, 1 when your foe steps back)?

Actually, I don't have the book here, but I *think* you can only use the feat if you haven't already taken your 5-ft step for that round. I could be wrong though and would wait for someone who has the feat handy to verify.

Edit - if that's the case though, I can easily see a situation where you're already one 5ft step out of phase with your target.

I just read it. There is no such limitation, except that you can only use the feat once per round. It's a neat idea though.

No, it wouldn't work if it had that limitation though.

You charge the archer and attack. The archer steps back 5ft, but since you've moved that round you can't take the 5ft step to follow. The next round you step up and the process repearts.

This feat would have to allow you to take an "extra" 5ft step to work.
