Ray spells targeting held items?

Well, the title says it pretty clearly, but here's the question: Can ray spells(specifically Eldritch Blast, but including others as well, especially if they are in some way different) damage held items, such as weapons?

Eldritch Blast can damage objects but all damage is halved.

I don't think there is a mechanic for doing so. The Sunder rules are specifically for using a melee weapon to either attack another's weapon, or a worn or carried object. In all cases it's a melee attack. However, there are feats such as Ranged Sunder that allow you to use a ranged weapon to Sunder a weapon or held object. Would I allow a weapon-like spell to mimic the effect? Probably, but I'd have to look in more detail to compare spell damage output to weapon damage output to see if it's balanced. Having said that, most objects resist elemental damage to some extent so maybe it'll be fine.
