Recommended World Map Programs?

Hi guys just been going through the ENWorld site trying to find a nice program for making world maps.

Ive done abit of searching over the net, found a few which are nice but no free ones which are what im looking for. Wondering what you guys recommend using?

im more looking for something to make entire world maps with. any suggestions? Checked out autorealm for like village/castle/town etc. making but i couldnt download it. broken link? *shrug*

Anyway, my favorite is Fractal Terrains (not to be confused with Fractal Mapper). It builds whole worlds at the touch of a button, and exports to a variety of formats, including VRML (make spinning globe models) and CC2 (for nifty campaign maps.)
